Add a New Location to Pulse
Updated
When your organization opens a new location or campus, there are a few things you'll need to set up in your Pulse account so that location's content streams, archives, and displays correctly. This guide walks you through the full process, in order.
What You'll Need
Before you begin, gather the following:
- A thumbnail image, sized 1920 x 1080 (16:9[] ratio) — used on your new Channel
- A cover image, sized 600 x 900 (2:3[] ratio) — used for the location's Series
- A Series banner, sized 1920 x 480 (4:1[] ratio)— a campus-specific banner image
- Access to your encoder or video source, which must be RTMP or SRT capable
Step 1: Create the Series
- In the Control Panel, go to Metadata, then Series.
- Click Add Series.
- Enter your location's full name. Avoid abbreviations — use "Student Services" rather than "SS," for example.
- Click Create.
Adding the Cover Image
- Click on your newly created Series.
- In the side panel, click Add Image.
- Set the Image Type to Cover.
- Select an existing asset in your account, or upload your new cover image.
Adding the Series Banner
- While still on your Series, click Add Image again.
- Set the Image Type to Banner.
- Select an existing asset in your account, or upload your new banner image.
Step 2: Verify Your Feed Settings
Before creating your new Channel, check how your Pulse Feed is currently configured to pull in content.
- If your Feed pulls from select Series: You'll need to update the Feed's filter to include the new Series you just created.
- If your Feed pulls from Categories: No changes are needed to the Feed itself — but make a note of exactly which Categories it filters on. You'll need this information in Step 5.
Step 3: Create the Channel
- In the Control Panel sidebar, go to Channels under Experiences, then click +Create Channel.
- Choose Stream Only as the Channel Type.
- Name the Channel after your new location.
- Set up the Channel's URL using your organization's name and a 3-letter location code — for example,
accountnameNYC.sardius.live. - Before finishing, add your thumbnail image — this is the last thing to handle here. If it's not ready yet, you can add or update it later from the Channel's Settings.
- Click Create Channel.
Step 4: Set Up Default Stream Settings
- On the new Channel, go to Stream in the sidebar and click Enable Streaming.
- Select Manual as your source.
- Choose the protocol your location's encoder or video source will use — RTMP, RTMPS, or SRT.
- Save your settings.
Connecting & Testing
- Copy the connection details generated by Sardius (Stream URL and Stream Key for RTMP/RTMPS, or the SRT connection details) into your encoder or video source.
- Test the connection using the Stream Status page for this Channel.
Step 5: Set Up Default Archive Settings
Before creating any events for this location, set up Default Archive Settings on the Channel:
- Give the archive a custom name.
- Set Auto-Approve and Auto-Transcode to ON.
- Set the Media Profile to Thumbnails Only.
- Add your Category and Series metadata. If your Feed pulls from Categories (see Step 2), use the same Categories you noted there.
- Set your Auto-Delete value, in days. You should already know your organization's standard value for this — if you're not sure, check one of your other locations' Channels for reference.
Step 6: Create Your Events
- Create events for this location following your organization's standard naming convention (for example, service time + 3-letter location code, like
11:30am BAL).
Archive Settings for each event — including the thumbnail — are inherited automatically from your Channel's Default Archive Settings, so there's nothing further to configure here.
Verifying It Worked
Once your video source is ready, schedule a short 10-minute test event to confirm everything is working end to end — your stream connection, your archive, and your metadata tagging. Then check your Pulse Review Channel to confirm your new location's content is actually showing up there.
