How to Edit Your Channel Player

You can access the Player menu on the main side bar within the Sardius Control Panel.
Players are not Channel specific - the same player can be assigned to multiple Channels.

Creating a New Player

To create a new player:

1. Navigate to Players in the side menu

2. Click Add Player in the top right of the screen

3. Enter a Player Name

4. Click Create

Features

The Features tab provides customization of basic player functions.

• Player Name - Allows you to change the name of the player.

• Player Type:
  As of Release 1.53, when creating or editing a player you can now choose between two player types:

  • Sardius Player:
    The default and recommended player. It includes the latest features, improved performance, and full support for current customization options

  • Legacy Player:
    Our previous version of the player used for backward compatibility. This option is typically only needed if existing workflows or embeds depend on older player behavior

  • please note:

    • Overlays are not supported on the Sardius Player. If your workflow relies on overlays (lower thirds, logo overlays, etc.), remain on the Legacy Player until further notice.
      
      

• Show Scrub Bar - Displays the video’s playback progress bar 

• Autoplay - Enables player to begin playing as soon as it finishes loading.

• Mute Player on Start - When enabled, the player will begin with muted sound. Sound will need to be enabled manually within the video.
• Loop Video - Allows the video to play on a continuous loop
• IOS Native on Fullscreen - Allows the player to be displayed as fullscreen when using an Apple/iOS device.
  
  
  

Advertising

The Advertising tab will allow you to add pre- or post-roll videos.

The Choose Asset button will allow you to select an Asset hosted within the Sardius Control Panel. If the video in question is hosted elsewhere, simply add the video URL into the field provided and hit the Save button.

Videos used for Player Ads do not need to be hosted within the Sardius Control Panel, although we do recommend that they are. Any publicly-hosted Mp4 file may be used.


As you choose assets, they will be listed at the top of the modal

You can also hit the Advanced Settings for Pre-Roll Ads for more options.
(These settings can only be saved if assets have been chosen first)

Appearance 

Use the Appearance tab to customize how your player looks and functions.

• Scrub Bar Color:
  Adjust the color of the video progress bar
  
  

The Scrub Bar Color option allows you to change the color of the bar that tracks the progress of the video duration. As shown in the above image, the Color chosen on the left is red, and the bar in the player to the right is also red. You can choose the color based on RGB value, hex code, or by clicking the color spectrum at the top or a color block at the bottom.

• Control Bar Icons:
  Configure which icons appear in the player control bar and in what order.

The Control Bar Icons menu allows you to choose which icons you would like visible at the bottom of your Player, and which order you want them displayed.

Simply drag-and-drop the icons that you'd like hidden over into the column marked Hidden Icons, and they will disappear from your player window.

A note on Subtitles

Global subtitle customization (font, color, size, placement, etc.) was previously supported in the Legacy Player. As the Legacy Player is end-of-life and will be officially decommissioned at the end of this year, this functionality is not currently available in the Sardius Player. Support for global subtitle editing in the Sardius Player is on our roadmap for a future update.

In the meantime, viewers can adjust their own caption appearance directly in the player by clicking the gear icon (⚙) in the lower right corner and navigating to the Captions section.

Security

The Security tab allows you to geo-restrict your player by City, Country, Continent, Zip Code, time zone, and more.

You can also add JWT tokenization. This allows for increased security of player URLs to make it subscription-based or to expire player URLs after a specified duration. 

With a little bit of development work, a tokenized player can be implemented into your organizations's website code.

History

The History tab displays who made changes to the player configuration and when it happened.

Selecting the Player for a Channel

To set the default player for a Channel:

1. Navigate to the desired Channel

2. Select Stream from the left-side menu

3. Click Settings at the top

4. Choose a player from the Player dropdown 

This selection sets the default player for content within the channel.

Players can be overridden at the event level if needed.

Once inside the Channel, select Stream from the left side menu. Select Settings at the top, and then select the desired player from the Player drop-down

Players can be assigned to channels and events, but you can also change the player for an asset when using the Asset share feature inside SCP.
