This walkthrough will guide you through the process of configuring your Kulabyte or KB Mini encoder to send an RTMP feed to your channel using Sardius Stream. This can function as a quick backup for your channel, or in the event your streaming workflow requires using the same baseband to stream to multiple outputs.
This article will focus on creating an event on a Sardius channel using Sardius Stream, but you can also edit upcoming events that already exist on your calendar.
Note: For best results, be sure that your event time will start AFTER your encoder starts to send to your event.
Sardius Channel Configuration
1. Access your Sardius Channel and start the event creation process. After entering your date, start time, and end time, click on "Add More Details"
2. Select the Streaming Tab
3. Select "Override channel defaults"
4. In Step 1 of the Modal, select “Sardius Stream” as your source type.
5. In Step 2 of the Modal, select “Manual”
6. Copy the RTMP Stream URL and RTMP Stream Key to your clipboard. Immediately paste this in a word document or text editor.
7. Click “Next” on the Modal.
8. In Step 4 of the Modal, select any linked or unlinked outputs you wish to use for this stream. Click Next.
9. Review your settings, then click Finish.
Kulabtye Configuration
Channel Creation
1. Access your Kulabyte and create a new channel.
2. In Modal Step 1, give the channel a name, such as Manual Sardius Stream Channel. Then click Next.
3. In Modal Step 2, select the proper Baseband Input.
4. Confirm the video and audio sources, then click Next.
5. In Modal Step 3, select “H264-1080-AAC-192” from the dropdown. Do not select any ABR presets as these create additional streams that will confuse Sardius Stream. Then click Next.
- Output Name: Sardius Stream RTMP
- Server: enter the RTMP Stream URL here
- Stream Name Template: enter the RTMP Stream Key here
7. Click “OK” and then “Next”
8. Review all settings. Your window should look like the picture below. Then click “Done”
Adjust Channel Settings
1. Locate the channel you just created and access the “Channel Details” menu.
2. Double click the 1080p Video Encoder to open it.
- If Framerate is 25-30, change Bitrate to 4000
- If Framerate is 60, change Bitrate to 6000
Note: These Bitrate and GOP Duration adjustments will permit Facebook and YouTube to accept the stream quality.
5. Click “Apply”
6. Click the Play button to begin streaming to the Sardius channel. Give the channel a few seconds, and if you see a green light next to the channel’s name, then your KB is successfully sending to your Sardius Channel.
Verify the Connection
Return to the Sardius Control Panel. If possible, adjust your event’s start time so that you can check your connection. Once the Live Event Manager starts, you should see an image in the player.
If you see a feed in the player, you have confirmed that your Kulabyte is connected to your Sardius channel!
