Streaming to Akamai with a KB Encoder
One of the many ways to stream with Sardius is by sending an HLS signal to Akamai from your KB encoder.
1. Sign into the KB Encoder
2. Duplicate the Channel within the encoder that you would like to use with Akamai. Click on the three stacked dots on the upper left of the Channel window and select Duplicate Channel from the dropdown.
If no Channels exist, create a new Channel within your encoder, selecting the desired encoding template (“H264-1080-ABR-AAC-192” is a good option to start with), and HLS as the Channel output. Then skip ahead to Step 6.
3. Rename the Duplicated Channel to distinguish it from the original. The name doesn't need to be fancy or special, simply adding Sardius in there would suffice. Then click the Duplicate button.
4. Click on the three stacked dots on the newly duplicated Channel and select Channel Details
5. Within the Main Channel details screen (the cog icon), click on the Stream Output toward the right side, and click the smaller cog icon above it to open the Output Parameters. You can also get there by double-clicking the Stream Output button.
6. Paste the Akamai Stream URL (provided by Sardius Support to you) into the field marked Server. Paste the provided Playback URL in the field titled for such. Do not enter anything for Username or Password. Make sure Segment Duration is 6000.
Note: Make sure the Protocol dropdown before the Stream URL is set to http:// and not https://
7. For best practices, set up a 2nd Stream output in your duplicated encoder Channel as a backup. Repeat the steps above, using the Akamai provided backup Stream URL and Playback URL, indicated by the letter b as in the example Stream URL: b-ep1234567.i.akamaientrypoint.net/1234567-b/live1
8. Test the stream by creating a test event. To learn more about that, click here.
