Managing Live Subtitles

This is a premium feature. To learn more about adding this to your account, speak to your Sardius Account Manager.

When your Event with Subtitles & Translations goes live, your viewers will be able to see a Closed Captions (CC) button in the player. And, when the viewers click on it, the viewer will be able to select a language for the subtitles.

manageSubtitlesPlayer

Each subtitle's duration will last as long as the programmed segment duration that is streaming from your encoder. For example, if your encoder is set for 2-second segment durations, then the subtitles will flash very quickly across the player.

We recommend 3-second or 4-second segment durations as a best practice.

If your segment duration is less than 3 seconds, and the subtitles are moving too quickly for the viewer to read (some languages require more words than others to complete a phrase or idea), you will have to end the event and start a new one using a different segment duration on your encoder.

Adjusting the Caption Speed / Sync Time

"Sync Time" refers to the start/end time of each subtitle's appearance in the player.

For instance, if your speaker says "Welcome to today's webinar," but the corresponding subtitle appears slightly before the speaker says those words, then your subtitles are slightly out of sync. In this example, the subtitles are running ahead of the stream.

The sync time can be adjusted while the event is live, and can be done so within the Sardius Control Panel. To adjust this, open your channel and access its calendar. Locate "Edit live subtitles" under the name of your event in the Live Event Manager. Click on this to open the settings modal.

manageSubtitlesLem

Enter in a new time (in milliseconds) into the sync time field. To delay the subtitles, add a positive number. To have each subtitle appear earlier, enter a negative into the sync time field. Click Update, and our system will make the adjustment.

Adjust the text properties

To adjust the text properties, such as font, decoration, size, and position, you will need to use our player editor. To learn more, please review the article How to Edit Your Channel Player

If you make any adjustments to the player settings while it is live, your viewers will have to refresh in order to see the changes.

Note: Our Live Subtitles & Translations feature currently does not subtitle and translate lyrics accompanied with music, such as those with a live band or worship group.
