How to Edit Your Channel Player
Your organization can provide a custom experience for your viewers as they tune in to your streams. With our Player Editor feature, you can add pre- or post-roll content, change the color of the scrub bar, and alter the icons around the player. You can even change the font, color, size and placement of subtitles that appear on your stream!
You can access the Player menu on the main side bar within the Sardius Control Panel. Players are not Channel specific and the same player can be assigned to multiple Channels.
In order to create a new Player, simply click on the Add Player button in the top right of the screen.
The modal that pops up will allow you to give your new Player a name, as well as choosing the type of Player you'd like. The Legacy Player will allow more customization options, where the Background Player will just be in the background of the page.
Features
The Features tab provides customization of basic player functions.
- Player Name - Allows you to change the name of the player.
- Show Scrub Bar - Displays or hides the bar that tracks the progress of the video duration.
- Autoplay - Player will begin playing as soon as it finishes loading.
- Mute Player on Start - When enabled, the player will begin playing muted. Sound will need to be enabled manually.
- Loop Video - Allows the video to play on a continuous loop
- IOS Native on Fullscreen - Allows the player to be displayed as fullscreen when using an Apple/iOS device.
Advertising
The Advertising tab will allow you to add pre- or post-roll videos.
Videos used for Player Ads do not need to be hosted within the Sardius Control Panel, although we do recommend that they are. Any publicly-hosted Mp4 file may be used.
The Choose Asset button will allow you to select an Asset hosted within the Sardius Control Panel. If the video in question is hosted elsewhere, simply add the video URL into the field provided and hit the Save button.
Appearance
The Appearance tab allows you to change the type of Player that you'd like to use, if you've changed your mind from the opening Modal menu.
The Scrub Bar Color option allows you to change the color of the bar that tracks the progress of the video duration. As shown in the above image, the Color chosen on the left is white, and the bar in the player sample to the right is also white. You can choose the color based on RGB value, hex code, or by clicking the color spectrum at the top or a color block at the bottom.
The Control Bar Icons menu allows you to pick and choose which icons you would like visible at the bottom of your Player.
Simply drag-and-drop the icons that you'd like hidden over into the column marked Hidden Icons, and they will disappear from your player window.
Note: The Control Bar Icons menu is only available when using a Legacy Player.
Subtitles
If subtitles are important to your viewership, then this is the category for you.
Not only can you change the font, but you can also swap out the color, the placement on the screen, the style -- bold, underlined, etc -- the font size, and even how many lines of subtitles you would like at one time.
The above image is exaggerated, but shows a sampling of what can be done with this new feature.
Security
The Security tab allows you to geo-lock down your player based on geographic location.
You can choose to lock down your stream based on City, Country, Continent, Zip Code, time zone, etc.
Looking to lock down your stream even further, add a tokenization to make it subscription based:
The Sardius Player supports JWT tokenization of player URLs. This allows for increased security of player URLs, as well as the ability to expire player URLs after a specified duration. With a little bit of development work, a tokenized player can be implemented into an organizations's website code. To learn more about the technical how-to, click here.
History
This tab just shows who made changes to the Player and when.
Selecting the Player for a Channel
To select which player will be used on a specific Channel, simply navigate to the Channel in question.
Once inside the Channel, select Stream from the left side menu. Select Settings at the top, and then select the desired player from the Player drop-down.
