In-Room Transcriptions

This is a premium feature. To learn more about adding this to your account, speak to your Sardius Account Manager.

In-Room Transcriptions were designed to aid in-person event attendees who may have difficulty following the speaker. This includes those who are hearing-impared, or do not comprehend the langage . The In-Room feature will allow any in-person viewer to access a live transcript for your speaker on their mobile device, such as an iPhone, Android phone, iPad, or other tablet.

This overview assumes that your account already has this feature enabled by your Sardius Account Manager. If you do not have the In-Room Transcriptions feature enabled by your Account Manager, but you do have the Subtitles feature enabled, then you will still not be able to see In-Room Transcriptions.

Step 1: Enable In-Room Transcriptions for your Event

Once you have created a calendar event, you will be able to enable the in-room transcription open. If you are not familiar with creating an event, please review this article: Adding a Calendar Event

Ensure that your Channel and/or Event is using Sardius Stream with an RTMPS input.

Edit your Event, and select the Streaming tab.

Locate the section called "Subtitle Settings."

Click the toggle switch beside "Enable Subtitles" to the ON position. This will enable the In-Room English Transcription feature for the event.

If you wish to translate the Subtitles into other languages, click on the "Translate Subtitles" button. Then, you can select any language you wish from the dropdown below.

A full list of supported languages is available in this article: Supported Languages

Once you have made all of your changes, select "Create Event" or "Save" depending on if you are Creating or Editing an existing event.

Step 2: Generate the In-Room Transcription Link

To locate the In-Room Link to share with a viewer, click on the "Share" button in the upper right of the screen.

In the modal that appears, copy the In-Room Transcript URL and send that to your in-room attendee.

Alternatively, you can add ?format=subtitles to the end of your channel's URL.

  • Example Channel URL: example.sardius.live
  • Example URL with code: example.sardius.live?format=subtitles

Helpful Tip: An easy way to share the in-room transcriptions link is with a QR code. You can use a variety of QR code generators online to input your transcriptions link and generate a code. This code can be placed on flyers, IMAG screens, bulletins, etc. for your in-room attendees to utilize.

Using the In-Room Transcriptions: Viewer Experience

When the event goes live, your viewer will see this on their mobile device:

inRoomViewer1

The screen will update automatically as the speaker talks. If the viewer has a dark mode enabled on their phone, then the screen will respect that and show a darker view.

If the viewer clicks the Settings Cog in the upper right corner, a control bar will appear at the bottom of the screen. The viewer will be able to adjust the size of the text, as well as the spacing between the lines.

If you have translations enabled, the viewer can tap the Language Options in the upper left corner and change their language.

Note: In-Room Subtitles/Translations currently do not translate lyrics accompanied with music, such as those with a live band or worship group.
