Watch Folder Troubleshooting
Overview
Sardius provides each client access to different Watch Folder providers to upload and process assets that are larger than 1GB. This article will contain some basic troubleshooting and best practices.
Characters to Avoid in File Names
Due to the nature of our watch folders, we recommend that you do not use periods in filenames. Sardius Watch Folders see all information after the period as a file extension.
- Bad example: FileName 4.16.2023.mp4
- Good example: FileName 4-16-2023.mp4
Every few minutes, Sardius scans the watch folder using a script, and only pulls in assets with appropriate file extensions that have completed uploading. If the asset does not have a valid extension after the first period, our script will not pull your asset into your Sardius storage.
Characters to avoid:
- Periods .
- Commas ,
- Slashes / \
- Parentheses ( )
- Brackets { } [ ]
Recommended FTP Clients
- Cyberduck
- Filezilla Pro
Note: The ability to access the S3 storage is not available in the free version of FileZilla.
Troubleshooting Unable to connect to LyveCloud/S3 with Cyberduck
Please verify the following:
- “Amazon S3” is selected from the dropdown.
- In the server field, make sure “http://” and “https://” are absent. Placing either of these in that field will change the dropdown from Amazon S3 to FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
- Your access key from the PDF instructions is correct
- Your Secret Access Key from the PDF instructions is correct
If the above is correct, and you’re still unable to connect, please contact Sardius Support.
Import Errors
If you’ve uploaded an asset, and it’s showing in the Sardius Control Panel, but it’s showing an import error. This is likely because the asset was deleted from the Watch Folder before the import to Sardius storage was completed. You will need to reupload the asset and allow it to fully import.
Deleting Assets from the Watch Folder
When you upload your asset to the watch folder, it can take a few minutes before it is pulled into Sardius storage. Once you see your asset appear in the Sardius Control Panel, DO NOT delete the asset from the Watch Folder.
We employ a script that will periodically remove assets from your watch folder once they are fully uploaded into our system. Deleting your asset from the watch folder can cause import or processing issues with Sardius storage.
If you leave your asset in storage, this can help the Sardius Support team troubleshoot any import errors that might arise.
Should you wish to delete the asset from the watch folder after upload, please wait until after the asset has been fully imported into the Sardius Control Panel and has fully processed under a designated publishing profile.
