# Set Up Linked Asset (External Stream) - Video Tutorial

> **Transcript:** in this video. We are going to create default stream settings for a channel using a linked asset or external stream. Before you begin, make sure you have the proper playlist URL from your streaming CDN provider. We'll start by creating an asset for our Akamai Feed in the Sardius control panel. Let's select assets from the sidebar to access the assets library. Next click Add Asset in the upper corner. Let's enter a name like Channel Akamai Feed and then click the linked tab. I've already copied my Akamai URL to the clipboard, so I will paste it here. Next I'll click create. And now my asset is ready. Let's go to our channel. Click Channels in the sidebar, and then select your channel by hovering over the image and click, “Go to calendar.” On the new sidebar, select Stream. If you have not enabled streaming for your channel, click enable streaming now. Once your channel is updated, click on Set Defaults. In the modal that appears, we will select Linked Asset as our source In the next step we will locate our Channel Akamai Feed asset and click next. Finally, we will get a chance to review our settings. Verify that your asset is shown in the source box, which is pointing to the output box, channel stream. If everything looks correct, click finish. This method will be used by all new events on your channel's calendar. Before each of your events go live, make sure to check your encoder and make sure that it's actively sending a feed. Otherwise, your viewers will not be able to watch your stream. And that's it. You have successfully set up your channel to stream with a linked asset using an external stream.
