# Set up a Makito X4 Manually for Sardius Stream Using SRT

This walkthrough will guide you through configuring your Makito X4 encoder to send an SRT feed to your channel using Sardius Stream. This can work as a quick backup for your channel, or for workflows that use the same baseband to stream to multiple outputs.

> **Warning:** If you are setting up a Makito X encoder, please review that [encoder's specific article here](https://support.sardius.media/knowledge-base/set-up-a-makito-manually-for-sardius-stream-using-srt).

This article walks through setting up the stream for **a single event** on a Sardius channel using Sardius Stream. You can follow the same steps for a new event or an upcoming event that's already on your calendar. Changes made here only apply to that event.

- To set up your **default channel stream settings** for all new events instead, see [**Setup and Change Default Stream Settings**](https://support.sardius.media/knowledge-base/setup-and-change-default-stream-settings).

> **Note:** For best results, make sure your encoder starts sending to your event **before** your event's start time.

### **Sardius Channel Configuration**

1\. Access your Sardius Channel and start creating your event. After entering your date, start time, and end time, click **Add More Details**.

![](https://support.sardius.media/kb-media/8cf29afd3609e164.png)

2\. Select the **Streaming** tab.

3\. Click **Edit default settings**, then hover over the **Source** and click **Edit**. Any changes you make here only apply to this event, not your channel's defaults.

![](https://support.sardius.media/kb-media/fc67da3897403c45.png)

4\. Choose **Manually, with my own device or software** as your source, select **SRT** as your protocol, then click **Next**.

![](https://support.sardius.media/kb-media/0fb0f2d7be041b47.png)![](https://support.sardius.media/kb-media/13311f5fb09a2ec0.png)

You'll be taken to the Stream Stepper overview. **Sardius Stream is selected automatically**, and you can add any outputs you need.

5\. **Add outputs** (optional) by clicking **Add Outputs** at the bottom of the overview.

6\. If everything looks correct, click **Save** in the top right corner.

![](https://support.sardius.media/kb-media/4527e8de9096ce89.png)

7\. Click **Create** to finish creating your event. If you're editing an existing event, save your changes to the event instead.

8\. **Copy your SRT Stream URL.** Your stream credentials are now displayed. Copy the **SRT Stream URL** and paste it into a doc or text editor so you can easily break it apart in the next section.

![](https://support.sardius.media/kb-media/59c3a84b9ae9b916.png)

> **Note:** For SRT, everything your Makito needs (address, port, passphrase, and stream ID) is included in the SRT Stream URL. If a separate Stream Key is also displayed, you don't need to enter it into the Makito.

### **Break Apart the SRT Stream URL**

In your text editor, **break the SRT Stream URL apart into the fields your Makito needs.**

URL breakdown:

> **Tip:** srt://{URL}:{PORT}?passphrase={KEY}\&streamid={STREAM ID}

Our example:

> **Tip:** srt://ep.stream.sardius.media:778?passphrase=1fdb497c5f8ec88ec9898c22a026ce14k7f50d77bad9201e8b85ebf9d1b2e86a7\&streamid=7f50d77bad9201e8b85ebf9d1b2e86a7

From our example, we have:

- _**URL**:_ ep.stream.sardius.media
- _**Port**:_ 778
- _**Key (using AES-256 encryption)**:_ 1fdb497c5f8ec88ec9898c22a026ce14k7f50d77bad9201e8b85ebf9d1b2e86a7
- _**Stream ID**:_ 7f50d77bad9201e8b85ebf9d1b2e86a7

> **Warning:** _**IMPORTANT:**_ By default, Sardius channels are created with 3-digit ports. Makitos require a 4-digit port to operate. For the Makito X4, change **778** to **8778** and continue.

### **Makito X4 Configuration**

Access your Makito X4 through a web browser, then select **Streaming** from the sidebar.

Before you can stream, you'll need to configure 3 sections of the Makito:

1. Configure a Video Encoder
2. Configure an Audio Encoder
3. Create a Stream

#### **Video Encoder**

At least 1 Video Encoder needs to be free for your output to use. Select one from the list by clicking its settings cog. A green outline means the encoder is already active.

![](https://support.sardius.media/kb-media/d17d9ea6b8d4d521.png)

We will use HD Video Encoder 0.

1\. Select the appropriate input.

2\. Enter the Basic Parameters:

- **Bitrate (Kbps):** enter a number from 4000 to 6000.
- **Resolution:** leave as Automatic
- **Frame Rate:** leave as Automatic
- **Framing:** leave as IP
- **GOP Size:** This is your segment duration. Calculate it based on your frame rate and a 4-second duration. For example, 30 fps at 4 seconds is 120.
  - 25fps / 4 seconds: 100
  - 30fps / 4 seconds: 120
  - 60fps / 4 seconds: 240

> **Note:** These **Bitrate** and **GOP Size** settings allow Facebook and YouTube to accept the stream quality.

3\. Scroll to the top of the page and click **Apply**. Then click **Start** to start the encoder.

#### **Audio Encoder**

Next, configure an Audio Encoder. Click the settings cog for an encoder to configure it. A green light means the encoder is in use.

![](https://support.sardius.media/kb-media/d6ffc1612c7edb3e.png)

We will select Audio Encoder 0.

1\. Select the appropriate input. Often, this will be SDI channels 1 and 2.

2\. Adjust the Basic Parameters:

- **Channel Mode:** Stereo
- **Bitrate:** Select 192
- **Sample Rate:** leave as 48
- **AAC-LC Algorithm:** leave as MPEG-2 ADTS
- **Language:** leave blank

![](https://support.sardius.media/kb-media/0c7d9c88c98c85da.png)

3\. Scroll to the top of the page and click **Apply**. Then click the play button to start the audio encoder.

![](https://support.sardius.media/kb-media/035838df098fdd7a.png)

3\. Set the Streaming Parameters:

- **Broadcasting Protocol:** Change to TS over SRT
- **Connection**
  - **Mode:** Caller
  - **Address:** `ep.stream.sardius.media` (the URL from your SRT Stream URL)
  - **Source Port:** leave blank
  - **Destination Port:** enter the Port from your SRT Stream URL
    - Remember, if the port is 778, change it to 8778
- **SRT Settings**
  - **Latency (in milliseconds):** change to 2000
  - **Encryption:** AES-256
  - **Passphrase:** enter the Key (passphrase) from your SRT Stream URL

![](https://support.sardius.media/kb-media/7c7db6a03ee1c906.png)

- **Enable SRT Access Control**
  - **Format:** Custom
  - **Stream ID:** enter the Stream ID from your SRT Stream URL

No further adjustments are needed. Click **Create** at the top of the screen. The output will start automatically.

Return to the Dashboard. A green checkmark next to your Stream means the output has connected to our system and is transmitting.

### **Verify the Connection**

Once your Makito X4 is streaming:

1. Return to the **Sardius Control Panel**.
2. Open your **Live Event** on your calendar. If possible, adjust the event's start time to a few minutes from now so you can test your connection.
3. Launch the **Live Event Manager**. This is where you can monitor your live event and preview the video Sardius is receiving.

If your Makito X4 is connected, you'll see **live video in the player**. This confirms your Makito X4 is properly connected to your Sardius channel.

> **Note:** For best results, always **start your encoder before the scheduled event start time**. This helps avoid missing video at the beginning of your event.

If you see your feed in the preview player, your Makito X4 is connected to your Sardius channel!
