Recording on a KB Encoder
On occasion, you may find the need to record a local backup or a private stream that you don't want broadcast publicly to your website or channel. For this reason, you may want to simply keep a local recording directly on your KB encoder.
Recording a Channel Stream
A recording can be started in either the Channel Control Center Screen or on the Channel Details Screens. It may also be started immediately when a scheduled event begins.
To Start Recording from the Channel Control Center:
- Click the MENU icon, and click Channel Control Center.
- Under the channel you wish to record, click the RECORD button.
- If the stream is currently:
Playing
A website notification appears indicating the recording has successfully started recording and "REC" is overlayed onto the bottom left of the channel preview window.
Stopped
A website notification appears indicating the recording has successfully been armed. When the channel is started, the recording starts automatically.
To stop recording:
- Under the channel you wish to stop recording, click the RECORD button.
- Once clicked:
- The 'REC' overlay on the bottom left of the channel preview window is removed.
- A website notification indicates recording has successfully stopped.
To Start Recording from the Channels Details Screen:
- Double-click on the channel preview window for the channel you wish to record to access the Channel Details screen. Alternatively, click OPTIONS and click Channel Details next to the channel you wish to record.
- In the toolbar near the top of the screen, click the RECORD button.
- If the stream is currently:
Playing
A website notification appears indicating the channel has successfully started recording.
Helpful Tip: If on the Channel Status screen, the Recordings section lists details of the started recording.
Stopped
A website notification appears indicating the recording has successfully been armed. When the channel is started, the recording automatically.
To stop recording:
- In the toolbar near the top of the screen, click the button.
- Once clicked:
- A website notification indicates recording has successfully stopped.
- On the Channel Status screen, the Recordings section shows the stream is no longer recording.
Accessing Your Recordings
Now that you've recorded, you will want to access that file. Click on the Hamburger Icon at the top of the KB interface and select Recordings.
The Recordings screen gives you access to the recordings of events and live streams.
Note: While any user can download recordings, you must be logged in as haioperator or haiadmin to delete those files.
As shown in the following image, the screen consists of:
- A status bar with:
- All – checkbox that allows you to quickly select all items listed.
- Actions – dropdown menu that provides the options to export, download, or delete the items selected.
- Free space/Capacity – showing the current available space and drive size, as well as a visual gauge indicating the space available.
- A KB Drive navigation bar that if you drill down into a folder, includes:
- Back button (<) that returns you to the KB Drive directory.
- Breadcrumbs that help identify the folder currently displayed.

The remainder of the screen is a listing all recordings showing the channel, folder/file name, recording duration, file size, and recording date information for each. The recordings are listed as individual files (for example, a single recording for a channel) or as a folder of multiple files (for example, multiple recordings of the same channel).
Clicking the folder icon opens the folder and lists the files within it.Clicking the up arrow icon returns you to the KB Drive directory.
To Download a Recording
- On the Recordings screen, click the checkbox beside the recordings you want to download. Use the All checkbox to quickly select all recordings.
- Click the Actions menu and click the Download option.
- When the Download Selected File(s) dialog appears, verify the information and click the Download button.
The selected recordings are downloaded to your computer. If you want to cancel a download in progress, use your browser controls to do so.
Note: The Download action downloads the recording, as well as the corresponding files (such as the SRT closed captions files). Downloads are limited to five recordings at a time.
To Export a Recording
- On the Recordings screen, click the checkbox beside the recording(s) to select the ones you are interested in exporting. Use the All checkbox to quickly select all the listings at once.
- Click the Actions menu and select the Export option.
- When the Export Selected File(s) dialog appears, choose the upload target from the dropdown menu.
- Verify the files selected and then click the OK button.
To Delete a Recording
- Click the OPTIONS MENU icon and select Recordings.
- On the Recordings screen, click the checkbox beside the recording(s) to select the ones you are interested in deleting. Use the All checkbox to quickly select all the listings at once.
- Click the Actions menu and select the Delete option.
- When the Delete Selected File(s) dialog appears, verify the files selected and then click the Delete button. There is no dialog to confirm. Please verify your selection carefully before clicking Delete.
The selected recordings are deleted from the KB Drive.
IMPORTANT: The Delete action removes the selected files from your KB drive. There is no confirmation to double check that this is the action you want to take. Please verify the selected files carefully before clicking the Delete button.
