# Recommended Encoder Settings

For the uninitiated, the settings on an encoder can be very intimidating. For best practices, Sardius recommends using the below settings.

### **RTMPS**

- **Resolution:** 1920x1080

- **Frame Rate:** Match your camera and/or video switcher frame rate.

- **Video Bitrate:** This will vary based on your frame rate.

  - 25-30 fps: 4Mbps - 6Mbps

  - 50-60 fps: 6Mbps - 8Mbps

- **GOP Size:** 3-4 seconds

- **Video Codec:** H264

- **Audio Bitrate:** 128kbps

- **Audio Codec:** AAC

> **Note:** **_For those using Sardius Stream to send to Facebook or YouTube_**, please review their bitrate and segment duration requirements. If your stream is using a bitrate or duration that doesn't comply with their recommendations, then you may experience issues.

### **SRT**

- **Resolution:** 1280x720 or 1920x1080

- **Frame Rate:** Match your camera and/or video switcher frame rate.

- **Video Bitrate:** This will vary based on your frame rate.

  - 25-30 fps: 4Mbps - 6Mbps

  - 50-60 fps: 6Mbps - 8Mbps

- **Video Codec:** H264

- **GOP Size:** 2-4 seconds
  - Any GOP size lower than 2 seconds will cause playback issues and buffering

- **Audio Bitrate:** 128kbps

- **Audio Codec:** AAC

- **Passphrase:** We recommend all streams use a passphrase and be encrypted at AES-256.

- **Stream ID:** We require streamId when sending SRT to Sardius Stream. If your encoder does not support these, please reach out to support.

> **Note:** **_For those using SRT with a Makito Encoder_**, your GOP size determines your segment duration. To accurately calculate your GOP size, do the following calculation: segment size \* frame rate. Example, if your frame rate is 25 and you want a 4 second segment size, you would do 25 \* 4 which would be a 100 GOP.

### **HLS**

- **Resolution:** 1280x720, 1920x1080, or 3840x2160

- **Frame Rate:** Match your video switcher frame rate.

- **Highest Rendition Bitrate:** This will vary based on your frame rate. 
  - _25-30 fps HD:_ 4Mbps - 6Mbps

  - _50-60 fps HD:_ 6Mbps - 8Mbps

  - _25-30 fps 4K:_ 20Mbps

  - _50-60 fps 4K:_ 25Mbps

- **Video Codec:** H264 or HEVC

- **HLS Segment Duration:** 6-10 seconds

- **GOP Size:** 2 seconds

- **Audio Bitrate:** 128kbps

- **Audio Codec:** AAC
