Recommended Encoder Settings
For the uninitiated, the settings on an encoder can be very intimidating. For best practices, Sardius recommends using the below settings:
- Resolution: We recommend using 1920x1080
- Frame Rate: We recommend setting this to match your camera and/or video switcher frame rate.
-
Bitrate: We recommend higher then 2mb/s and under 10mb/s. Anything over 10 we have noticed hasn't shown a great improvement.
For those using Sardius Stream to send to Facebook or YouTube, please review their bitrate requirements. If your stream is using a higher bitrate than their recommendations, then you may experience issues. The link for this is below.
- Segment Duration: We require at least 2 second segments, but we recommend 6. We don't not advise segments longer then 10 seconds.
For those using SRT, your GOP size determines your segment duration. To accurately calculate your GOP size, do the following calculation: segment size * frame rate. Example, if your frame rate is 25 and you want a 4 second segment size, you would do 25 * 4 which would be a 100 GOP.
For those using Sardius Stream to send to Facebook or YouTube, your Segment Duration is required to be 4 seconds. If it is longer, Facebook and YouTube will not accept your stream.
- SRT: We require streamId and streamKey when using SRT with our platform. If your encoder does not support these, please reach out to support.
- RTMPs: We require RTMPs with our platform and we currently do not support RTMP. We have no plans on supporting RTMP.
