Transcoding an Asset

You can transcode your asset in multiple profiles (HLS, MP4, MP3, etc). 

  • HLS is the preferred profile for live and VOD streaming as it will provide a "right-sized" format for a wide audience no matter their bandwidth limitations.

  • MP4 is preferred for downloadable content

  • MP3 is ideal for podcasts and low-bandwidth downloads.

To transcode an asset, find it in the list view and click on the specific asset to open the detailed window. The Transcode button is always visible in the lower right hand corner from any of the asset tabs. 

Click on the Transcode button to open the Transcoding modal.

When the modal appears, select the appropriate Media Profile from the list of dropdown options and click the Transcode button when finished.

As your file transcodes, you can view your Transcoding Status in the Overview tab, to the right of the Player.

Once the Transcoding process is complete, you will see the status updated and all existing Media Profiles listed in the Overview tab, to the right of the player.

Other Transcoding Options

The following Transcode options do the same thing as clicking the Transcode option button at the bottom right of the asset. They are just other ways to access the Transcode modal described above. 

Transcode using the Additional Actions options in the detailed Asset view:

Additional actions are accessible from the hamburger menu in the upper right hand corner of the detailed asset window.  From here you can also Transcode your asset. 

Click on the stacked dots to see the dropdown options. Select Transcode to open the transcode options modal, select your profile and transcode your asset.

Transcode using the Quick Actions option from the List View:

You can also Transcode an asset from the Assets list by using the Quick Actions available from the hamburger menu. To do so, hover over the desired asset, click on the Hamburger menu and select the Transcode option. 

This also opens the same Transcode modal as the other two access options.

Choose your profile from the dropdown options and click Transcode.

In the assets library view, you can see at a glance what profile an asset has been transcoded with. 

If this area is blank, that means it is untranscoded.
