# Pair a Makito X Encoder

> **Warning:** _**IMPORTANT:**_ Please make sure your encoder is up to date with the latest Firmware build before pairing to Sardius.

> **Tip:** _This article will guide you through pairing a Makito X Encoder. For the Makito X4 Encoder, [click here](https://support.sardius.media/knowledge-base/pair-a-makito-x4-encoder)._

Before powering up the Makito for the **first time**, please do the following:

1. Unbox the Makito and place it in your production rack (or location where it will be used)
2. Connect an SDI video signal to the Makito
3. Connect a CAT-5 Network cable into the "Network" port
4. Verify that the unit is at room temperature
5. **DO THIS LAST!** Plug in the power cable. The Makito will automatically begin to power up.

To configure the Makito, you will need:

- A computer that is on the same network and subnet as the Makito in order to access the Makito UI.
- A separate window/tab on that same computer that is logged into the Sardius Control Panel.

Information on how to access the Makito's UI and other startup recommendations are available by clicking here: <https://doc.haivision.com/MakitoXEnc/2.6/makito-x-encoder-quick-start-guide>[](https://doc.haivision.com/MakitoX4Enc1.6.1/makito-x4-encoder-quick-start-guide/access-the-web-interface)

> **Note:** _**Note:**_ Prior to pairing your Makito with Sardius, please contact Sardius Support to make sure your channel(s) are configured for using a Makito.

### **Video Tutorial**

**Video**

> **Transcript:** In this video, we will show you how to pair your Makito X Encoder to your account. Before you begin, make sure that you have two tabs open. One for the Sardius Control Panel and the other for your Makito X Encoder. To begin, select Devices from the Sidebar. Next, click Add Device in the upper right corner. A variety of encoders can be paired with our system. The Makito X is a Haivision encoder, so we will select Haivision to continue. The modal will ask you to sign in to your Makito X. If you haven't already done so, please do so now. Click Next. Now we will need to copy the pairing code. This will copy the code to the clipboard. Now we need to go to our Makito X Encoder. Switch to that tab, and do not close the tab for the Sardius Control Panel. In the Makito, click on the Gear or Settings icon in the upper right corner. Locate Services on the sidebar and click on it. Then find Haivision EMS at the bottom of the screen. Make sure it is toggled on, then click Configure. In the large box, paste the passcode you obtained from the Sardius Control Panel. Click Connect. Allow this process to complete. Once it does, it will show that it is connected to the management service. If it does not connect, your Makito likely needs a DNS entry to continue. Please review our Knowledge Base on how to resolve that. Once you are connected, switch back to the tab with the Sardius Control Panel. Click "Check for Device." This process can take up to 60 seconds, so please do not navigate away. Close the tab, or refresh. When the process is complete, your encoder will be displayed on the screen. Your encoder may have an interesting name. If you would like to change that, simply click on the name of the encoder, enter in a new name, and click the checkmark. Congratulations! Your Makito X encoder is now paired to your account. To learn more about managing your Makito X encoder, or using it to stream, please visit our Knowledge Base. Thank you for watching, and we will see you in the next video.
