Fieldkick Display Engine from 4.0+ up to 4.8

IMPORTANT: This process will erase the Display Engine and restore it to "factory" settings. Any specific configurations or downloaded content will be erased.

Requirements:

  • Physical access to the Display Engine
  • Ethernet cable for the Display Engine
  • Keyboard
  • Monitor or other display
  • You may need an adapter. Check the unit to see if you'll need a monitor with VGA, HDMI, or Display Port connector.
  • USB Drive, 4GB or larger
  • The DVR ISO file containing the field kick software (Contact Sardius Support to download this)
  • Etcher (Program to turn the USB Drive into a bootable USB)
  • A computer to download the ISO from Sardius and run Etcher
  • Updated License File (Contact Sardius Support to obtain this. Please have the MAC address for the Display Engine ready)

 

Create Bootable USB Drive

1. Contact Sardius Support and request a download link for the Field Kick software

2. Using your computer, download and install Etcher.

3. Plug the USB drive into your computer.

4. Launch Etcher.

5. Click the Flash from File button.

6. Select the ISO file you downloaded from Sardius Support and click the OPEN buton.

7. Click the "Select Target" button

8. Check the box next to the drive you will write the image to. Click the Select button to continue.

IMPORTANT: The drive you select will be erased and all data on that device removed. Please choose carefully.

9. Verify your settings and click the "Flash!" button.

10. Your computer will ask you for your password or your permission in order to proceed. Make your decision and continue.

Etcher will display a progress bar showing Starting, Flashing, and Verifying during the stages of the process.

11. You will be presented with a "Flash Complete!" message when the process finishes successfully.

12. Close Etcher and remove the USB drive from your computer.

 

Fieldkicking the Display Engine

1. Power off the Display Engine.

2. Plug in the Ethernet cable, monitor, keyboard and the USB drive. You can use any appropriate port for these devices.

3. Power up the display engine and be ready to use your keyboard quickly.

4. When you see the BIOS menu (shown in the first 5 seconds of the boot sequence), press and hold down on your keyboard:

  • F10 for DE3 (DisplayPort, HDMI)
  • F11 for Server Models (Gen 1)
  • F12 for SDI Server (OptiPlex 7080) or SDI Mini Models

This will open the boot menu. If you do not hit the button in time, restart the Display Engine.

5. If you successfully access the boot menu, you should be presented with options of different devices or drives to boot up your display engine. Select the line that begins with USB and press enter.

 

DO NOT select the option that begins with UEFI : USB.

6. After booting from the USB Drive, use the arrow keys to highlight Install cdvr-4.8.0_r39 and press Enter.

7. The Display Engine will immediately start the erasure and installation process. This will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. 

The following may occur:

  • Repeat Installation
    After erasing the internal drive, the Display Engine may reboot and ask you again to Install the cdvr software. Select the Installer and run the installation again.
  • Screen goes blank
    Some models feature a built-in screensaver. You can press Enter on the keyboard to reactivate the screen output. For other models, this means that installation is complete. Use your computer to access the Display Engine via IP.
  • 5) [!] Installation Destination
    There is insufficient drive space. Stop and contact support.
  • 7) [!] Network configuration
    The device has failed to obtain a DHCP address

8. Once finished, the Display Engine will automatically reboot. Pull out the USB drive and allow the Display Engine to boot up normally. 

9. You should be presented with the blue Console UI screen. If you do not, try hitting the ESC key or the Control+Alt+F1 keys to switch to console mode.

Note the IP Address on the Console Screen and save this for later use.

You can log into the console with the hvroot username and password.

10. If you need to change the network settings, use the keyboard to:

  • Scroll down to Network Settings and hit Enter
  • Make the changes as required by your Network Administrator or IT Department
  • Once done, hit Enter. You will be returned to the main menu.
  • Reboot the Display Engine using the command in the Console.

 

Congratulations! You have successfully field-kicked your DVR Display Engine and you are ready to proceed to Applying the Build 43 patch.
