# Add a New Location to Pulse

**Video**

> **Transcript:** Adding a new location touches a few different parts of the control panel. Before you get started, gather a few things for each campus you're adding. You will need a thumbnail image size 1920 by 1080. That's a 16 by 9 ratio which you'll use on your new channel. A cover image sized 600 by 900, a 2 to 3 ratio for your new location series. A series banner size 1920 by 480, Also, for your new location series, you'll also need access to your encoder or video source, whether that's RTMP and or SRT capable. First, create your new location as a series. Head to metadata, then series and click Add Series. Give it your location’s full name. Avoid abbreviations here. Once it's created, click on your new series in the side panel. Click Add image. Set the image type to cover. Then upload your new cover image. While you're here, also add your series banner. Click Add Image again. This time set the image type to banner and upload your image. Click update to commit your changes. Before creating your channel, check how your feed is set up to pull and content to your pulse review site. If it's configured to pull from select series, you'll need to update your feed to include the new series you just created. If it's configured to pull from categories instead, your feed won't need any changes, but make a note of exactly which categories it's filtering on since you'll need that information later when setting up default archive settings. Next, create the location’s channel. Choose stream only as the type. Name it after your location, and set up its URL using your organization's name and a three letter location code. Before you finish setting up the channel, add your thumbnail image. This is the last thing to handle before you're done here. Don't worry if you don't have it ready right now, you can always add it or update it later from the channel settings. With your channel created, set up its default stream settings just like you learned earlier in this course. Select manual as your source and pick the protocol your new location’s video source will use. Once your settings are saved, enter the connection information into your encoder or video source and test the connection using the Channel Stream status page. If your video source isn't ready yet, that's okay. You can pick this back up later. Just know it needs to be done before your setup is complete. Before creating any events, set up default archive settings on the channel. Give it a custom name. Set your published profile to thumbnails only and add your category and series metadata using the categories you noted back in step two, if your feed pulls from categories. You'll also need to set your auto delete value in days. You should already know your organization’s standard value for this. If you're not sure, check one of your other location’s channel for reference. This needs to be in place before you start creating events for this location. Now it's time to create your events for this location. Be sure to follow the same naming convention you learned earlier. Once your video source is ready, schedule a ten-minute test event to confirm everything's working end to end: Your stream, your archive, and your tagging. Then head over to your pulse review channel and confirm your new location’s content is actually showing there. This might feel like a lot of steps for what seems like one action, but that's normal. Bringing a new location online always touches a few different parts of the control panel. When in doubt, walk it through in order: Series, feed check, channel, stream settings, default archive settings, then your event. Everything we just covered gets your archived recordings into Pulse. If you'd also like your live stream itself to be visible in pulse while it's happening, that's a separate, optional process. Check out the next video for how to set that up. Excellent. You now know what to do when you add a new location to Pulse. Thanks for watching and we'll see you in the next video.

When your organization opens a new location or campus, there are a few things you'll need to set up in your Pulse account so that location's content streams, archives, and displays correctly. This guide walks you through the full process, in order.

## What You'll Need

Before you begin, gather the following:

- **A thumbnail image**, sized **1920 x 1080** (16:9 ratio) — used on your new Channel
- **A cover image**, sized **600 x 900** (2:3 ratio) — used for the location's Series
- **A Series banner**, sized **1920 x 480** (4:1 ratio)— a campus-specific banner image
- **Access to your encoder or video source**, which must be RTMP or SRT capable

## Step 1: Create the Series

1. In the Control Panel, go to **Metadata**, then **Series**.
2. Click **Add Series**.
3. Enter your location's full name. Avoid abbreviations — use "Student Services" rather than "SS," for example.
4. Click **Create**.

### Adding the Cover Image

1. Click on your newly created Series.
2. In the side panel, click **Add Image**.
3. Set the **Image Type** to **Cover**.
4. Select an existing asset in your account, or upload your new cover image.

### Adding the Series Banner

1. While still on your Series, click **Add Image** again.
2. Set the **Image Type** to **Banner**.
3. Select an existing asset in your account, or upload your new banner image.

## Step 2: Verify Your Feed Settings

Before creating your new Channel, check how your Pulse Feed is currently configured to pull in content.

- **If your Feed pulls from select Series:** You'll need to update the Feed's filter to include the new Series you just created.
- **If your Feed pulls from Categories:** No changes are needed to the Feed itself — but make a note of exactly which Categories it filters on. You'll need this information in Step 5.

> **Note:** For more details on adjusting the feed's content, please **[click here](https://support.sardius.media/knowledge-base/feeds-smart-playlists-pinned-assets)**.

## Step 3: Create the Channel

1. In the Control Panel sidebar, go to **Channels** under **Experiences**, then click **+Create Channel**.
2. Choose **Stream Only** as the Channel Type.
3. Name the Channel after your new location.
4. Set up the Channel's URL using your organization's name and a 3-letter location code — for example, `accountnameNYC.sardius.live`.
5. Before finishing, add your **thumbnail image** — this is the last thing to handle here. If it's not ready yet, you can add or update it later from the Channel's Settings.
6. Click **Create Channel**.

## Step 4: Set Up Default Stream Settings

1. On the new Channel, go to **Stream** in the sidebar and click **Enable Streaming**.
2. Select **Manual** as your source.
3. Choose the protocol your location's encoder or video source will use — **RTMP**, **RTMPS**, or **SRT**.
4. Save your settings.

> **Note:** This setup is formally known as Manual Sardius Stream. To learn more about this, **[click here](https://support.sardius.media/knowledge-base/manual-sardius-stream-set-up)**.

### Connecting & Testing

1. Copy the connection details generated by Sardius (Stream URL and Stream Key for RTMP/RTMPS, or the SRT connection details) into your encoder or video source.
2. Test the connection using the **Stream Status** page for this Channel.

> **Note:** To learn more about how to use the Stream Status tool, **[click here](https://support.sardius.media/knowledge-base/using-the-stream-status-page-with-sardius-stream)**.

## Step 5: Set Up Default Archive Settings

Before creating any events for this location, set up Default Archive Settings on the Channel:

1. Give the archive a custom name.
2. Set Auto-Approve and Auto-Transcode to ON.
3. Set the **Media Profile** to **Thumbnails Only**.
4. Add your **Category** and **Series** metadata. If your Feed pulls from Categories (see Step 2), use the same Categories you noted there.
5. Set your **Auto-Delete** value, in days. You should already know your organization's standard value for this — if you're not sure, check one of your other locations' Channels for reference.

## Step 6: Create Your Events

1. Create events for this location following your organization's standard naming convention (for example, service time + 3-letter location code, like `11:30am BAL`).

Archive Settings for each event — including the thumbnail — are inherited automatically from your Channel's Default Archive Settings, so there's nothing further to configure here.

## Verifying It Worked

Once your video source is ready, schedule a short **10-minute test event** to confirm everything is working end to end — your stream connection, your archive, and your metadata tagging. Then check your **Pulse Review Channel** to confirm your new location's content is actually showing up there.
