# 9. Create Your First Event

**Video**

> **Transcript:** Welcome back to our onboarding video series. In this video, we're going to create our first live stream. In this Sardius control panel, we call these events. Let's start by accessing the channel. We need to schedule an event for by clicking “Go to calendar” on the channel card. This will open up our event calendar. can be created in different ways. You can click the Add Event button in the upper corner. Or you can click and drag on the calendar. for this video, we're going to click and drag to create a 90 minute event. Events can be quickly created by just entering the name, selecting the date, the start and end time, In this stage you can also select the option to repeat this event. For example, if your organization has a regular Wednesday webinar, you could set that to repeat every Wednesday. If you want your event to repeat, you will have to make the decision here in the very beginning. You also have the option to add more details to this event. We'll cover this section in just a moment. So for now, we'll click Add event. And voila, our event is now ready for streaming. Let's take a moment and refine our event settings. Click once on the event and then click edit. will open the edit pane, which contains four tabs. In the first tab, Event Details, we can change the name of the event, and the dates and the time. We can also add pre and post roll times, which will enable your player a few minutes before the livestream is scheduled to start, much like opening the doors to a theater before the movie starts. post roll is handy for a little extra buffer at the end of your event in case it goes over slightly. You can also attach bios for speakers, actors, musicians. and so on to this event. if you're using a channel layout like the slate layout, this information will be stored in the calendar and can even display during a live event. You can add an event image that can be displayed on your channel if it is showing a public schedule. And you can also add a subtitle and a description to be read by your audience. From the channel screen under the customization tab, you can easily change the asset in the player to something like a SimLive or a YouTube video. You may also have some advanced options for this event that can take effect in your channel go more in-depth on this customization feature in a later video. Next, we'll move to the Archive Settings tab. Here, you can enable the archiving of your events. This will save a recording into your account’s assets so you can use it again later. You have the option to automatically approve or publish this event asset for VOD or other workflows. And you can also select a publishing profile for your workflow For example, if you want to be able to download an MP4 later, you can choose to auto publish. an MP4. Below this section is our metadata area where you can assign languages, air dates, categories, tags, topics and so much more. Once again, this can be customized according to your workflow. Finally, we have the streaming tab. Remember how we set our default stream settings in an earlier video? Those default settings are pulled ahead to this event. Right now, our event is set to stream to our channel player, Facebook and YouTube. Here we can override our channel defaults and make adjustments. Check each step for changes that need to be made. But maybe we don't want to use Facebook for this event. Or maybe we just want to keep it to our channel. Or maybe we are using an encoder that has multiple base bands and we need to select an alternate base band for this stream. Another reason why I might want to override is for this week's webinar. I'm actually going to be out of town on vacation. So when I override, I can choose simulated live. Select the type of media the media. Verify your settings, then hit finish. Be sure to click Save. If your event is a recurring event, You will have the option to save just for this event or for this event and all following. And that's it. You've scheduled your first event. In our next video, we'll go over how to manage your event when it is live. See you there.

In this episode of our Onboarding Tutorials, you will learn how to create your first streaming event using your channel’s calendar. You will also learn how to automatically archive and transcode your event when it is finished, as well as enable recurring events and adjust your streaming settings for individual events.
