# 2. Live Streaming Overview

**Video**

> **Transcript:** In this video, we will provide you with a high level overview of how streaming works in the Sardius platform. Streaming in Sardius is built around five key elements. First, devices: your encoder or video source. Two, outputs. The destinations for your stream like Facebook, YouTube and others. Third, Templates. Customizable settings for quality, codecs, bitrates and more. Four, stream services. Popular methods for live or SimLive streaming. And, five: channels, where everything comes together to create your live stream. Devices refers to paired or managed encoders. Sardius supports a select range of hardware appliances like the Makito, Elemental Live or the Sardius EMLA encoder. These devices can be remotely controlled, allowing us to start and stop your stream automatically based on your schedule. Outputs are the endpoints for your stream, everything from social platforms to custom HLS destinations, and more. Templates let you fine tune each output. For example, you could send a 6 Mbps stream to Facebook and YouTube for reliability, but an 8 megabit per second higher quality stream to your web player. Stream services allow you to support a combination of applications and specialized outputs based on your organization's needs. Finally, the channel ties it all together. It takes your device, applies the right templates, and pushes to your chosen outputs. In the next few videos, we'll dive deeper into devices outputs, templates, stream services, and channels. Our next video will take us to the first element devices.

In this video, we will provide you with a high-level overview of how streaming works on the Sardius platform.
