# 2-2. Manage Categories and Feeds

**Video**

> **Transcript:** Categories and Feeds allow you to harness the power of our metadata engine to dynamically funnel and aggregate content for podcasts, video on demand outlets, and so much more. In this video, we'll show you how to set up and manage both Categories and Feeds. Let's begin with the foundation of our system, which are Categories. To access these, locate Categories on the sidebar under Metadata. Here you will see a complete list of Categories already in your library. To add a category, let's click Add Category in the upper right corner. In the modal that appears, Let's add a category for Training Videos. You can also add a description and a release date if you want. When you are finished, click Create. Now we can add more information into our category. Here we can add a description, short description, a subtitle, add some tags and bios, and we can even set a cover image. A lot of this information is utilized by our Collections layout and other VOD features. Once you made your additions or edits, click update to save your changes. Now you can go into your Assets library and add this category to any of your assets. Next, we'll move on to Feeds, Locate Feeds on the sidebar under Content. A list of all current feeds in your library will appear. Let's start with adding the feed for Training Videos. Click Add Feed in the upper right hand corner. In the modal that appears, enter in a name for the feed. You can also add a release date or description if you like. Then click Create Feed. Right now, there's no information to show because this feed isn't looking for anything yet. Let's start with the Assets tab. Here we can pin an asset such as a trailer or introductory video. Any asset you pin will always be the first entry in the feed. To do this, we can click on Add Asset and then make our selection. We can also create a Smart Playlist. Smart Playlists can pull from categories, topics, speakers, date ranges, and so much more. Only assets that meet the criteria you choose will show within this feed. These options can be accessed by clicking the Advanced filter button. Here we can set up filter rules such as looking for certain categories, topics, speakers, titles, durations, air dates, etc.. For this feed, we're going to set our categories to equal and type in Training Videos. If I wanted to limit these to current videos, I can click add another filter and then set air date as greater than January 1st of this year. Now let’s click Show Results The feed has populated with all of the assets I have tagged with this category. Using these options, I can sort these by title or by air date. To save or changes, let's click Update Feed. Now let's go to the Overview tab. Our player has loaded the first asset in the feed. Just below it, we can see a total number of assets and whether or not those assets are public, restricted or approved. Here we can also get a player URL or iframe embed for our needs. Under the General Settings tab. We can change the name, add a thumbnail for the category, which is handy for podcasts and any relevant topics and tags. Under RSS metadata, We can add specific information for your RSS or media RSS feeds, which are used in setting up podcasts with Apple, Spotify and other services. You can add specific information that the podcast services are looking for, like categories, summaries, email addresses and such. To obtain any of your feed URLs, click on the three dots next to the button that will close the information pane. Finally, we'll take a look at the Restrictions tab. You can restrict this feed based upon viewer segments which are used in select channel layouts that require user login or registration. We can also restrict by domain or even file type. For example, if you will use this for an audio only podcast, you can restrict the file type to be MP3. You can also restrict based on the asset’s availability date or air date. For example, if you have a podcast episode that scheduled to air or be available on June 1st, this feed won't pass along that asset until June 1st arrives. Finally, there are some privacy settings available as well. For more information on feeds and the options in each of these tabs, please visit our online knowledge base. Congratulations. You can now create and manage categories and feeds. We'll see you in the next video.

In this video, you will learn how to create categories and feeds within your account. Categories are the backbone of our metadata management system and unlock powerful ways to organize your content. Feeds are used to aggregate certain types of content for podcasts, web applications, and select Sardius Channel layouts.
