# 2-12. Customize the Channel Player for an Event

**Video**

> **Transcript:** In this video, we're going to demonstrate alternative ways you can livestream to your channel by customizing the player for your live event. Every time that you create a channel, the Sardius control panel creates a player and a channel stream asset for that player. Typically, every event that you schedule on your calendar will use your preferred streaming method for that channel's player. There may be occasions where you will need alternative streaming methods. If you're using a linked asset service to stream, such as Akamai or Resi, and you are experiencing issues with your primary stream, you might want to override your current live event and present a backup stream while you troubleshoot your primary connection. Or you might want to use one channel's livestream asset for the event on another calendar. We make it easy to swap out your channel's default livestream asset in a process we call “customizing the player.” You can also schedule these changes in advance. If you're wanting to change your streaming method for the event, say, for a SimLive if instead of Sardius Stream, you want to instead override your event stream settings. We have a separate walkthrough for that which is linked below on this page. Let's take a look at how to override or what we call customize the player. We'll start by accessing our channel and locate the event that we want to customize. Click edit. When the edit pane appears, we'll click on the customization tab. Depending on your channel layout and setup, this customization tab could contain a variety of options. This video will just focus on the player. You'll notice that there are two tabs available: asset and advanced. By default, the channel stream asset for your player will already be shown here. If you haven't renamed your channel stream asset via your Assets library, the asset name will be the same as your channel ID, which can be found in your browser's URL bar. To change the asset, you simply need to click on the blue button with the assets name, locate and select the asset you want to be here and then click Save in the lower right hand corner. Let's open our channel and watch the change happen. We have several advanced options available, including selecting an asset by PID, creating an alternative SimLive using a feed or an asset, pulling the most recent asset from a feed, dropping in an iframe from something like a Vimeo embed, a YouTube video ID, a Resi ID and HLS manifest URL and a few others. For example, let's say I want to use a YouTube video during my event. I'm going to select YouTube paste in a video ID, which is everything after the V equals side and the YouTube URL and then hit save. As you can see, everyone who is watching your live event will now be able to watch your YouTube video in the Sardius player. If you were to change the asset again, including back to the original live stream, the player would dynamically change again and show all viewers exactly what you want them to see. Congratulations. You now know how to override and customize your channel's player during an event. We'll see you in the next video.

In this tutorial, you will learn how you can customize (or override) the content that can appear in the player on any Sardius Channel.

> **Note:** _**Note:**_ If you are using Sardius Stream, this tutorial will only affect what is going to your channel and/or player embedded in an external webpage. This will not affect any active stream to other RTMP, SRT, Facebook and YouTube outputs.
